Consumer law for online stores changed four times in the last two years, and keeps changing.
This page is the public version of what Contradeck monitors. Auto-detected means a scan
flags it against your store directly. Manual check means we tell you the obligation exists,
what it requires and where to look, because verifying it needs access a Shopify app does not have.

In force
— checked in every scan
Already applicable. If your store does not meet these, the exposure is live today.
IN FORCE
EmpCo Directive (EU) 2024/825Auto-detected
Generic environmental claims and offset-based neutrality claims prohibited. Sustainability labels must rest on a certification scheme. Durability, repairability and software-update information required before purchase. Applicable 27 September 2026.
IN FORCE
AI Act (EU) 2024/1689, Article 50Manual check
AI chat must identify itself to the customer. AI-generated product media and copy must carry machine-readable marking. Applicable 2 August 2026; marking deadline for existing systems 2 December 2026.
IN FORCE
GPSR (EU) 2023/988Manual check
Producer identification on listings and an EU-established responsible person for goods from non-EU brands. Applicable since 13 December 2024.
IN FORCE
European Accessibility Act (EU) 2019/882Manual check
Accessibility requirements for e-commerce interfaces. Applicable since 28 June 2025.
IN FORCE
Right to Repair Directive (EU) 2024/1799Manual check
Transposition deadline was 31 July 2026. Product scope is set at EU level but penalties and procedures sit in 27 national statutes, so the text you answer to depends on where you sell.
IN FORCE
Consumer Rights Directive, GDPR, Omnibus, Sale of GoodsAuto-detected
Withdrawal rights, refund windows and timelines, pre-contractual information, privacy notices, prior-price rules, review authenticity, two-year legal guarantee.
IN FORCE
UK CCR 2013, CRA 2015, DMCC 2024Auto-detected
Cancellation rights, satisfactory quality, and the DMCC prohibitions on fake reviews and subscription traps.
Coming into force
— dated, on the calendar
Confirmed dates. Rules enter the scan as each becomes applicable, so you do not need to track the Official Journal.
30 DEC 2026
EUDR (EU) 2023/1115Manual check
Deforestation-free due diligence for leather, rubber, wood and derived products — relevant to footwear and leather goods. Medium and large operators from 30 December 2026; micro and small enterprises from 30 June 2027.
2 DEC 2026
AI Act Article 50 — marking deadlineManual check
Systems already on the market before August 2026 must meet the machine-readable marking requirement. Content generated before that date needs no retroactive labelling.
2 DEC 2027
AI Act — Annex III high-risk obligations
The high-risk timeline was deferred to December 2027. Limited relevance to a storefront today, but it moves biometric and profiling use cases into scope.
12 AUG 2028
PPWR (EU) 2025/40 — harmonised packaging label
Material-composition labelling under Article 12. Note that the regulation itself has applied since 12 August 2026; the day-one duties are EPR registration, conformity documentation and substance limits, which sit mainly with producers rather than resellers.
Under watch
— no date, or still moving
Not law yet, or law without an application date for e-commerce. Listed so you can see what is coming — and what quietly died.
NO DATE
ESPR (EU) 2024/1781 — Digital Product Passport
Ecodesign framework is in force, but the delegated acts that would bring textiles and footwear into scope are still pending. No application date for these categories yet — we are tracking the delegated acts rather than guessing a date.
2027
EU repair information platform
The Commission platform foreseen under the Right to Repair Directive was not live at the July 2026 deadline and is expected during 2027.
WITHDRAWN
Green Claims DirectiveNo longer tracked
The separate Green Claims proposal was withdrawn in June 2025 and never became law. Compliance guides still reference it. The binding obligations on environmental claims are in EmpCo, above — which is where we check.
